About the Book

Suicide Squad: Trial by Fire (New Edition) by John Ostrander, with art by Luke McDonnell, collects the early stories that established the modern Suicide Squad and its Task Force X concept.

The story follows Amanda Waller, the director of a secret government program that assembles incarcerated super-villains for dangerous missions. In exchange for completing missions, members of the team can earn reductions in their prison sentences.

Task Force X

The Suicide Squad is designed as a covert team that can be sent on missions where the government needs deniable and expendable operatives. Under Amanda Waller's direction, characters including Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Bronze Tiger and Enchantress become part of the team.

The collection explores the relationships and conflicts between these characters as they undertake dangerous assignments while dealing with their own motivations and criminal pasts.

The Classic Suicide Squad

This new edition collects the first eight issues of the 1980s Suicide Squad series along with the team's updated history from Secret Origins #14. It provides the beginning of John Ostrander's influential run and introduces the version of Task Force X that became widely associated with the modern Suicide Squad.

The collection combines superhero action, espionage, covert missions and character-driven storytelling within the DC Universe.
